What are my top 13 strategies?
Read on
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #1
SPOKEN WORDS ARE WORTHLESS
In the corporate world — words mean nothing. Your boss can praise you, appreciate you and exalt you in front of everyone. It means nothing. If its not given to you in writing on a legal document — then it means nothing.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #2
STAGNATION MEANS SLOW DEATH
If for the last 3 years you are still getting the same salary, working in the same capacity, with the same people, doing the same work — you have stagnated. Don’t expect any change for the next 3 years unless you do something drastic.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #3
CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS & ENEMIES
You can either be friends with the management or with your colleagues. Choose carefully. Making friends with one makes you the enemy with the other.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #4
IF YOU ARE GOOD – DON’T TAKE SHIT
The ones who are truly productive in the company and who know their worth — they never take crap from the management. The management is generally afraid of pissing them off and they always play it safe. However, the rest of the staff — even if they are productive, get treated like crap simply because they do not have the guts to stand up for themselves.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #5
VOLUNTEER? FOR WHAT?
You are working for money right? Does the management give you free money for the same salary? Why work extra hours for free? Why work extra for free? Don’t fall for the BS that if you work hard and give more, you will be compensated more ‘one day’. If they give you the extra compensation immediately upon completion of the work — then its legit. Otherwise is plain vanilla BS.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #6
DON’T BE LIKE THE REST…
Either you stand out in your company or you will be bundled together with the losers and the team & the manager will get the credit for your work. Make sure the management knows your contribution month after month after month.
How?
By a written report that you document and keep as an email with a CC to your boss & your boss’s boss. The management should know you are keeping a tab of your contributions. So that when the day does arrive where you have to claim your pound of flesh — you have records.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #7
EMPTY PROMISES?
Don’t work for a company that doesn’t keep it word. And never continue working for a company that keeps giving you excuses for why they couldn’t compensate you but they never fail to point out when you are wrong.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #8
OBSERVE & EVALUATE
Observe & evaluate:
– your immediate boss carefully
– the corporate culture
– the colleagues in the company
– who is the favorite in the company
– who is the rebel in the company
And then ask yourself where do you fit into all this?
That will determine your chances of succeeding in the company
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #9
SOMETHING NO ONE TELLS YOU
Always work harder on yourself than you work on the job.
The difference is like having a knife that is sharpened versus one that is blunt and worn out. Which one do you think will find its way to the thrash can sooner?
Oh and the day, they do throw you out – if you are sharp enough, you wouldn’t be standing in the unemployment line – right?
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #10
SOMETHING NO ONE TELLS YOU – PART 2
Work on yourself during office hours.
What do I mean by that?
Network, Kiss Ass, Play the political game, know whom to connect with, know which buttons to press….
Don’t assume working the hardest is the key to success.
After all — you are contributing to the company right?
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #11
EITHER YOU ARE NUMBER 1 OR YOU ARE NUMBER NONE
Do you remember who was awarded the 1st place in the Olympics?
Do you remember who was the 2nd place winner?
Either you are number 1 or you are nothing at all.
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #12
BE OBSESSED
When you work – only work.
You are not there to socialize, make friends, check social media, chat and waste time while drinking coffee.
Be a man on a mission
PERSONAL BRANDING STRATEGY #13
TRUE FRIENDS DON’T EXIST
In the corporate world – No one and I repeat NO ONE is your friend, no one is your well-wisher. It is just a dog-eat-dog world where only the best survive, thrive and strive. If you are looking for friendships – stay at home.
