Why Ghost in the Shell Should Remain A Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Whenever there is a futuristic flick, I love to watch it. The imagination, the creativity, the originality all comes into play. However, the one major challenge that all creative sci-fi flicks have to face is that creating something new from scratch is not easy. You have the introduction of characters, the introduction of the new worlds, the familiarization of the audience into these new worlds and the believability factor that should jump forth. Otherwise – the audiences will disconnect the movie will flop. That is why not many movies can replicate the success of Star Wars or Avatar.

Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson plays the role of a cyber-enhanced perfect soldier who is devoted to stopping the world’s most dangerous criminals. However, she comes face to face with a super new terrorist group that can hack into peoples mind and control them and this turns out to be Scarlett’s biggest adversary. And that is where the story starts with its twists and turns.

The movie starts really well and takes you into a world of suspense but as the movie progresses into the middle part of its part, all of a sudden it stops taking you into a climax and then the downward spiral begins. And following that, what is left is just the sad bits where you wish the movie would end fast. What could have been a really good movie turns out in the end to have a flat line. Ghost in the Shell could have really been a really entertaining cult classic. Instead, it got reduced to a bad plot, poor storyline, and absolutely terrible ending.

If I could summarize the movie I would say “Ghost in the Shell is a visually compelling movie but a movie that lacks feeling, suspense, intelligent story telling and yes the capacity to hold its audience until the end.

It is an amazing movie with superb production – however if you cannot tell the story properly – its finished.

If you didn’t watch Ghost in the Shell, don’t worry. You didn’t miss anything much. If you can see the 1st half – watch the first half and then leave.
